Abstract
Leeds Beckett University Library undertook a small scale project in Autumn 2015 to review the support and services provided to international students and understand how, why and in what ways we could / should be supporting them. Instead of traditional research methods we employed UX techniques, including touchstone tours, cognitive mapping and interviews. The results were analysed by identifying themes and coding the data; followed by a “How? Now, Wow!” workshop to generate ideas and then a “How might we..?” session to come up with answers.
Dedicated funding was unavailable so we took the opportunity to involve staff from across the service rather than allocating a new staffing resource. In doing so we were able to cascade training on UX techniques and raise awareness of their use. Liaison also took place with the International Office and the Students’ Union.
