Additional Information: | Work submitted in the open format of this exhibition. this is a long established well respected open exhibition held at the cafe gallery london southwark. Little Pink Bush is a very short film about gender, colour and place. Made by artists Lewis Paul and Sarah Taylor it charts the lost world of Elizabeth Burris-Meyer the American colour theorist who has been written out of the colour history of Art, and Art and design. The artists take her rare surviving colour books from the 1940’s on a journey back to the light of Connecticut USA to explore the complexity of her colour fields. This short artist’s film gathers the remnants of Burris-Meyer’s surviving work and reveals how wondrous this colour work is. Simple, sure and surprisingly contemporary Burris’s work takes on new appeal. This film celebrates our pleasure in looking and reinstates the importance of female colourists against the canon of male dominance in painting… all in under four minutes! |
